As per the report of the Technical Group by the National Commission, the population of Goa is projected to be 1,593,000, or 1.59 million, or 15.93 lakhs, as of July 1, 2025. Goa is the fourth-least populous state in India. Goa’s population is projected to reach 16.65 lakh in 2036.
The size of the population of Goa is equivalent to that of Bahrain, the 154th most populous country in the world.
In 2025, the sex ratio of the total population in Goa will be 101.391 males per 100 females. There are 802,000, or 802k, or 8.02 lakhs, males and 791,000, or 791k, or 7.91 lakhs, females in Goa. Goa has 11,000, or 11k, more males than females.
Goa accounts for 0.11 percent of the Indian population, which is 0.09% less than the peak level of 0.20% in 1901. The population growth rate for 2025 is projected at 0.51%, which is the 7th lowest among states. Goa will add 8k more people in 2025.
According to the Census of India 2011, the population of the state of Goa was 1.46 lakhs, increasing from 1.35 lakhs in 2001. There were 739,140 males and 719,405 females, with a sex ratio of 102.743 males per 100 females. The percentage of decadal growth during 2001–2011 was 8.23%, 6.98% lower than the 1991–2001 period. The population of Goa had increased by 111k during the decade 2001–2011.
The population of Goa, which at the turn of the twentieth century was only around 476k, increased by approximately 3.35 times in a period of 123 years to reach 15.93 lakhs in 2025. In 1901, Goa was the 21st most populous state, but as of 2025, it has been surpassed by four states: Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, and Nagaland.
