GDP of China

According to the IMF World Economic Outlook (October 2025), China's nominal GDP in 2025 is projected at $19,399 billion, $649 billion more than the $18,750 billion in 2024. China is the 2nd largest economy globally, trailing by $11.22 trillion from top-ranked the United States and leading by $14.39 trillion from 3rd-ranked Germany.

China contributes 16.6% of the entire world's GDP. China's share of the world economy increased from 1.57 percent in 1987 to an all-time high of 18.5 percent in 2021.

The Chinese economy crossed the $1 trillion mark in 1998 and the $2 trillion mark in 2005 and took only nine years to reach the $10 trillion mark in 2014 in nominal terms. China is projected to cross the $20 trillion mark in 2026. Estimates by the World Bank are available since 1960, when the country's GDP was 60 billion USD.

China attained the highest 2nd rank in 2010 and the lowest 12th in 1980. China has overtaken the GDP of these 12 countries since 1980: the Netherlands (1981), India (1988), Russia (1993), Mexico (1994), Spain (1994), Canada (1995), Brazil (1996), Italy (2000), France (2005), the United Kingdom (2006), Germany (2007), and Japan (2010).

China has the largest economy among Asian countries. China shares around 46% of the total of Asia's GDP (nominal).

Based on PPP, China's economy in 2025 is projected at 41,016 billion international dollars, the highest in the world. China contributes 19.6% of the entire world's GDP (PPP). Since 1980, China has overtaken Canada (1982), Saudi Arabia (1982), Spain (1983), Mexico (1986), India (1987), France (1990), Brazil (1990), the United Kingdom (1990), Italy (1990), Russia (1991), Germany (1994), Japan (1999), and the United States (2014). China shares almost 40 percent of the total of Asia's GDP (PPP). The gross domestic product (GDP) of China at purchasing power parity (PPP) is 2.11 times the GDP at nominal.
