GDP of Russia

According to the IMF World Economic Outlook (October 2025), Russia's nominal GDP in 2025 is projected to be around $2,541 billion, $367 billion more than the $2,174 billion in 2024. Russia is the 9th largest economy globally. Russia contributes 2.17% of the entire world's GDP. Russia's share of the world economy was maximum in 2013 (2.94%) and minimum in 1999 (0.60%).

The Russian economy crossed the $1 trillion mark in 2007 and the $2 trillion mark in 2011 in nominal terms. Estimates by the World Bank are available since 1988, when the country's GDP was 555 billion USD.

Russia attained the highest rank of 7th in 1988 and the lowest of 23rd in 1999. Russia has overtaken the GDP of these 14 countries since 1999: Austria (2000), Belgium (2000), Argentina (2001), Sweden (2001), Taiwan (2001), Switzerland (2001), Türkiye (2001), Australia (2005), the Netherlands (2005), Mexico (2007), Spain (2010), South Korea (2022), Canada (2025), and Brazil (2025).

Russia is in 5th position among European countries. Russia shares around 8.57% of the total of Europe's GDP (nominal).

Based on PPP, Russia's GDP in 2025 is forecast at 7,143 billion international dollars, the 4th highest in the world, behind the United States, China, and India. Russia contributes 3.42% of the entire world's GDP (PPP). Russia has overtaken Indonesia (2001), Mexico (2003), France (2006), the United Kingdom (2006), Italy (2006), Brazil (2008), Germany (2021), and Japan (2021) since 2000. Russia has been overtaken by China (1991) and India (1992). The gross domestic product (GDP) of Russia at purchasing power parity (PPP) is 2.81 times the GDP at nominal, the 4th highest ratio in Europe.

Russia has the largest economy among European countries by GDP (PPP). Russia shares almost 16.3 percent of the total of Europe's GDP (PPP).
