In 2026, Taiwan is projected to have a slightly female-skewed sex ratio of 97.67 males per 100 females, meaning females marginally outnumber males. Based on its overall female-to-male ratio, Taiwan ranks 105th among 237 countries and territories worldwide and 17th among 51 Asian entities and fourth within East Asia. Its sex ratio is similar to those of Albania, Kyrgyzstan, and Eritrea.

Taiwan has 11,370,090 (11.37 million) males and 11,641,202 (11.64 million) females in 2026, resulting in a female surplus of approximately 271K people. Males account for 49.41% of the population, while females make up 50.59%. Taiwan has the 12th-largest female surplus in Asia and the 12th largest worldwide.

In Taiwan, the male-to-female ratio increased from 105.63 males per 100 females in 1950 to a peak of 114.82 in 1966. Since then, the ratio has steadily declined, falling below parity in 2016, when females began to outnumber males. Taiwan's sex ratio is projected to remain below parity through 2100.

The sex ratio at birth in Taiwan is approximately 106.6 male births per 100 female births, which is near the upper end of the typical biological range of around 103–107 male births per 100 female births. Historically, the ratio has remained relatively stable but at times has been elevated, fluctuating within a range of 105.1 to 110.1 male births per 100 female births.

As of 2026, Taiwan has more males than females in age groups below 40 years. The 20–24 age group has the highest male-to-female ratio, with 109.21 males per 100 females. Among children under 15, the sex ratio stands at 107.35, while the working-age population (15–64) is also male-skewed, with 101.04 males per 100 females. However, the ratio declines sharply among those aged 65 and older, falling to 83.13 males for every 100 females. Among older adults, women substantially outnumber men, with females outnumbering males by about 2 to 1 in the 95–99 age group and by about 3 to 1 among centenarians.
