As per the report of the Technical Group by the National Commission, the population of Uttar Pradesh is projected to be 238,875,000, or 238.9 million, or 23.89 crore, as of July 1, 2024. Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state in India. Uttar Pradesh’s population is projected to reach 25.95 crore in 2036.
The size of the population of Uttar Pradesh is equivalent to that of Pakistan, the 5th most populous country in the world. None of the countries in South America, Europe, or Africa have more people than Uttar Pradesh.
In 2024, the sex ratio of the total population in Uttar Pradesh will be 108.635 males per 100 females. There are 124,332,000, or 124.33 million, or 12.43 crore, males and 114,542,000, or 114.54 million, or 11.45 crore, females in Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh has 9,788,000, or 9.79 million, more males than females.
Uttar Pradesh accounts for 17 percent of the Indian population, which is 2.57% less than the peak level of 19.57% in 1901. The population growth rate for 2024 is projected at 1.01%, the 9th highest among states. Uttar Pradesh will add 2.39 million more people in 2024.
According to the Census of India 2011, the population of the state of Uttar Pradesh was 19.98 crore, increasing from 16.02 crore in 2001. There were 104,480,510 males and 95,331,831 females, with a sex ratio of 109.597 males per 100 females. The percentage of decadal growth during 2001–2011 was 20.23%, 5.62% lower than the 1991–2001 period. The population of Uttar Pradesh had increased by 12.28 million during the decade 2001–2011.
The population of Uttar Pradesh, which at the turn of the twentieth century, was around 46.65 million increased by approximately 5.12 times in a period of 123 years to reach 238.9 million in 2024. Uttar Pradesh has been the most populous state since 1901.
