List of South American countries by GDP per capita

Guyana is the richest economy in South America, followed by Uruguay. These two have a GDP per capita of more than 20k US dollars. Five economies would have per capita GDP above $10,000. Venezuela is the poorest economy in South America.

In 2024, Guyana would dethrone Uruguay at the top spot. Suriname will surpass Ecuador. None of the South American economies is in the top 40, and only two economies are within the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings.

Out of 12 economies, three South American economies would see a decrease in their per capita income in 2024 compared to 2023. Guyana will add $5,120 in 2024, followed by Uruguay ($1,431), and Suriname ($817). Argentina, Chile, and Ecuador are the three decliners.

In PPP data, Guyana has a GDP per capita of above 50k Int. Dollars. Five economies would have per capita GDP above Int. $20,000, and all economies have above Int. $8,000. None of the South American economies is in the top ten richest economies globally, as top-ranked Guyana is in 11th position, the only economy within the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings. There will be no change in PPP ranking in 2024.
