List of African countries by GDP per capita

Seychelles is the richest economy in Africa, followed by Mauritius. Only these two economies would have a per capita GDP above $10,000. South Sudan is the poorest economy in Africa. Fourteen African economies have a GDP per capita below $1,000.

In 2025, Ghana will move up by five places, followed by Uganda (+3). Ethiopia will move down by 11 spots. None of the African economies are in the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings, and only four economies are within the top 100.

Out of 53 economies, the nominal GDP per capita of 48 economies would increase, and 5 economies would decrease in 2025 compared to 2024. Ghana will add $787 in 2025, followed by Mauritius ($610). Egypt ($-379) and Ethiopia ($-316) are the top decliners.

In PPP data, five economies have a GDP per capita of above 20k Int. Dollars. Fifteen economies would have a per capita GDP above Int. $10,000. Egypt and Libya would overtake Equatorial Guinea and South Africa to become the 4th and 8th richest economies in Africa, respectively. None of the African economies is in the top 50 world GDP per capita rankings, and only five economies are within the top 100. South Sudan is the poorest economy in Africa in terms of PPP.

Out of 53 economies, the GDP (PPP) per capita of 51 would increase, and two economies would decrease in 2025 compared to 2024. Libya will add Int. $2,632 in 2025, followed by the Seychelles (Int. $2,192) and Mauritius (Int. $1,831). Equatorial Guinea and Botswana are the two decliners.
