In 2026, Brazil is projected to have a moderately female-skewed sex ratio of 96.70 males per 100 females, indicating that females outnumber males by a notable margin. Based on the overall female-to-male ratio, Brazil ranks 80th out of 237 countries and territories worldwide, 22nd out of 50 in Latin America and the Caribbean, and fifth out of 14 in South America. Its gender ratio is comparable to that of Bangladesh, South Sudan, and San Marino.

There are 104,987,792 (104.99 million) males and 108,574,874 (108.57 million) females in Brazil, resulting in a female surplus of about 3.59 million people. In percentage terms, females make up 50.84% of the population, compared to 49.16% males. Brazil has the second-highest absolute female surplus in Latin America and the Caribbean and ranks third globally, after Russia and Mexico.

In Brazil, the male-to-female ratio has undergone a significant long-term decline. It fell from 101.68 males per 100 females in 1950 to below parity in 1968, when women began to outnumber men. This trend is expected to continue, with the ratio projected to decline further to around 95.70 males per 100 females by 2049.

The sex ratio at birth in Brazil is approximately 104.5 male births for every 100 female births. Historically, the ratio has remained relatively stable, fluctuating within a narrow range from about 104.3 in 1979 to 104.7 in 1993, indicating minimal variation over time.

As of 2026, Brazil has more males than females in age groups under 35. The highest male-to-female ratio is found in the 00–04 age group, with 104.24 males for every 100 females. Among children under 15, the sex ratio is 104.16, while in the working-age population (15–64), the ratio is slightly female-skewed at 98.15 males per 100 females. However, the ratio declines significantly among those aged 65 and older, with only 78.66 males for every 100 females. Among the elderly, women greatly outnumber men, with nearly 62% of those in the 85–89 age group being female and a 6-to-1 female-to-male ratio among people aged 90 and above.
