Bangladesh’s population in 2026 shows a modest female majority. The sex ratio stands at 96.66 males per 100 females, indicating that women slightly outnumber men. There are 87,397,048, or 87.40 million, males and 90,420,997, or 90.42 million, females in Bangladesh, resulting in a female surplus of about 3.02 million people. In percentage terms, females make up 50.85% of the population, compared to 49.15% males.

Globally, Bangladesh ranks 5th in terms of absolute female surplus, following Russia, Mexico, Brazil, and Japan. In terms of overall female-to-male ratio, it holds the 79th position out of 237 countries and territories. Within Asia, Bangladesh ranks 15th out of 51 countries and territories on the female-to-male ratio scale. Among South Asian countries, it ranks second, behind only Nepal. Its gender ratio is comparable to that of Turkmenistan, Brazil, and Eswatini.

In Bangladesh, the male-to-female ratio has undergone a significant long-term decline. It dropped from 109.26 males per 100 females in 1950 to the point where women began to outnumber men in 2009. This trend is expected to continue, with the ratio projected to fall further to around 95.93 males per 100 females by 2052.

In Bangladesh, the sex ratio at birth is approximately 104.9 boys per 100 girls. Historically, this ratio has remained relatively stable, fluctuating within a narrow range—from about 103.6 in 2010 to 105.3 in 1988—indicating only minor variation over time.

In Bangladesh, the male-to-female ratio varies notably across age groups. It reaches its highest point at 108.42 males per 100 females in the 65–69 age group. Among children aged 0–14, the ratio is 105.98 boys per 100 girls, indicating a male majority at younger ages. However, the pattern shifts in adulthood. For the 15–64 age group and those aged 65 and above, the ratio favors females, meaning women outnumber men in these segments overall.
