In 2026, Ukraine is projected to have a heavily female-skewed sex ratio of 87.11 males per 100 females, indicating that females outnumber males by a large margin. Based on the overall female-to-male ratio, Ukraine ranks tenth among 237 countries and territories worldwide, and fourth among 50 entities in Europe behind Moldova, Russia, and Latvia, while placing third in Eastern Europe. Its gender ratio is comparable to those of Belarus, Georgia, and Latvia.

There are 18,406,434 (18.41 million) males and 21,129,414 (21.13 million) females in Ukraine, resulting in a female surplus of about 2.72 million people. In percentage terms, females account for 53.44% of the population, compared to 46.56% males. Ukraine has the second-highest absolute female surplus in Europe and ranks sixth globally, after Russia, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and Bangladesh.

In Ukraine, the male-to-female ratio has increased from 75.25 males for every 100 females in 1950, peaking at 87.35 in 1999. This sex ratio is expected to remain below 90 males per 100 females until 2078.

The sex ratio at birth in Ukraine is approximately 106.2 male births for every 100 female births. Historically, the ratio has remained relatively stable, fluctuating within a narrow range from about 104.9 in 1974 to 107.0 in 2000, indicating minimal variation over time.

As of 2026, Ukraine has more males than females in age groups under 45. The highest male-to-female ratio is found in the 10–14 age group, with 105.46 males for every 100 females. Among children under 15, the sex ratio is 104.66, while in the working-age population (15–64), the ratio is moderately female-skewed at 95.90 males per 100 females. However, the ratio declines significantly among those aged 65 and older, with only 53.61 males for every 100 females. Among the elderly, women greatly outnumber men, with females outnumbering males by roughly 2 to 1 in the 75–79 age group and by 10 to 1 among centenarians.
